🌟 Welcome to Citrus Valley High School AVID

At Citrus Valley High School, our AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program is dedicated to preparing students for college readiness and success in a global society. AVID is designed to support students who have the potential to succeed in rigorous academic environments, particularly those traditionally underrepresented in higher education. Through a structured elective class, students develop critical thinking, organizational, and study skills, while receiving support to navigate the path to college and career success.

Our AVID program emphasizes:

  • Academic Instruction: Focused on enhancing writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading skills.
  • Tutorial Support: Regular sessions with trained tutors to reinforce learning.
  • Motivational Activities: Including guest speakers, college visits, and team-building exercises.

🎯 Program Overview

AVID is a college readiness system that equips students with the skills and knowledge to succeed in post-secondary education and beyond. The program targets students in the academic middle who are capable of completing a college preparatory path with support. AVID students are enrolled in rigorous courses and receive additional support to ensure their success.

🧠 WICOR Strategies

Central to the AVID curriculum are the WICOR strategies:

  • Writing: Developing communication skills through various forms of writing.
  • Inquiry: Encouraging curiosity and critical thinking through questioning.
  • Collaboration: Working effectively with peers to enhance learning.
  • Organization: Managing materials and time efficiently.
  • Reading: Enhancing comprehension and analytical skills.

These strategies are integrated into daily lessons to promote active learning and academic excellence.

🎓 College Field Trips

AVID students have the opportunity to participate in college visits throughout the academic year. These field trips are designed to expose students to various college campuses, helping them envision their future in higher education. By their senior year, students will have visited multiple colleges and universities, gaining valuable insights into college life and expectations.

💰 Fundraising Opportunities

To support the costs associated with college visits and other program activities, AVID students engage in fundraising efforts. These activities not only help offset expenses but also teach students valuable skills in planning, organization, and teamwork. Fundraising events may include:

  • Product sales (e.g., snacks, merchandise)
  • Community events
  • Sponsorship drives

Participation in fundraising is encouraged to ensure all students can benefit from the full range of AVID experiences.
