Thursday, May 29 is the LAST day for Peer Tutoring in the library.

The library will be closed at lunch on Friday, May 30. The library will be closed for the school year beginning on Monday, June 2, so we can help with textbook collection.

All seniors must return their Chromebooks and chargers, textbooks, and overdue library books before graduation to avoid delays in getting transcripts or diplomas. All other grade levels will keep their Chromebooks and chargers, but students must return all textbooks and overdue library books.

Students who need to check out textbooks or novels for AP or honors summer work may check out those books during finals week.

There is so much here for you waiting to be discovered. Begin with our Destiny catalog. Destiny is where you will go to search for books, keep track of materials you have checked out or need to return, and find information necessary for paying for lost or damaged books.

In addition to Destiny, we have state databases that you can use to find credible sources for research projects and more. Our facility houses flexible classroom space, a green screen room, glass conference rooms, technology, and plenty of other resources.

We are open from 7:30a.m. - 4pm on any day that school is in session. Hours may be adjusted for minimum or rally days. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have. During vacations or over the summer, please call ahead to confirm staff will be available to help you.

The following books, eBooks, and audiobooks are available from your REVHS school library and via collaborations with our county and local city libraries.

CVHS Library

Access using your CVHS Network Login ID (example: jasonbor.29837) and your 10-digit SSID # (example: 2983793750). In-person book check-out only available during school hours.

SBCL eBooks/Audiobooks

Access using RUSD/SBCL Digital Resources Card 24/7. Your card # can be found on your Aeries account. Click here for details.

Reserve Library Space

Book a time to come and visit the many spaces that our newly remodeled library offers. Spaces are designed to support collaboration and innovation, fitting the needs of 21st century learners. Just complete the Google Form to schedule available time(s) and date(s) for your visit. You will receive a confirmation email to confirm your appointment.

Library Research Databases

The following databases are available to all CVHS staff and students via collaborations with CA State Library, San Bernardino County Library, and Redlands A.K. Smiley Public Library.

CA State Library Databases

Click here to access USERNAMES and PASSWORDS with your school Google account. You can also access them on Clever.

Copyright and Plagiarism

What is copyright?

Copyright is a legal protection granted to the creators of original works, such as books, music, movies, software, and other creative expressions, giving them exclusive rights to control how their work is used and distributed.

What is copyright infringement?

Copyright infringement refers to the unauthorized use, reproduction, distribution, or display of copyrighted material without the permission of the copyright holder.

Copyright infringement is illegal and can lead to various legal consequences, including fines and civil lawsuits filed by the copyright holder to protect their rights and seek damages.

Examples:

Reproducing copyrighted materials: making copies of music without the artist's permission
Public performance or display: showing a movie to the public without permission
Distribution: sharing files, such as pictures, without permission

What is plagiarism?

Plagiarism is the act of using someone else's words, ideas, or work without proper attribution or permission and presenting them as your own.

Plagiarism can have serious consequences, such as academic penalties, damage to one's reputation, and legal consequences in some cases.

Example:

Imagine a student is writing a research paper on the topic of climate change and comes across an article that provides a well-written and insightful analysis of the causes and effects of climate change. Instead of summarizing or quoting from the article and properly citing it, the student copies entire paragraphs from the article and pastes them into their paper without any quotation marks or citations. In their paper, they present this information as if they wrote it themselves.

Powerwash

Try to powerwash your Chromebook before bringing it to the library or textbook room.

If your Chromebook does not work after the powerwash, please see us for additional technical support.

Replacing a lost Text or Library Book

Textbook & Library Book Replacement Guidelines

All students are financially responsible for the material checked out in their names. We STRONGLY suggest that students do not leave material unattended at any time. Leaving any book in a teacher’s room, even if allowed or encouraged by a teacher, does not remove the student’s responsibility for its care or for damages that may occur.

We recommend covering all texts with book covers to maintain the integrity of the books and to make them more easily identifiable. We also recommend writing the student’s name on the front cover of any consumable textbook.

Any books lost, stolen, or damaged will result in a fine. Fines must be cleared before a replacement book will be issued. There are two options for clearing a fine:

OPTION 1: Pay for the book
1. Cash; checks are accepted for payment until May & beginning, again, in August.
2. If a book is later returned, a refund will be sent to the address on record.
OPTION 2: Replace the book
1. Any replacement book must exactly match the ISBN# of the lost book.
2. The replacement book must be complete and in good condition, as defined by library staff.
3. Replacement books will only be accepted if accompanied by a receipt proving the book was legitimately purchased.
4. If the lost book is later returned, there will be no cash refunds, though the student may keep the copy, if desired.
